Another high-profile Saudi follower for Newcastle illustrates takeover remains on course

Another member of the Royal Court of Saudi Arabia has begun following Newcastle United in a further sign the takeover is moving close to completion.

Saud Bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud, a half brother of Mohammad Bin Salman, added the club’s Twitter and Instagram feed to his social media presence on Friday as the Newcastle buy out continued to go through Premier League checks.

His @hrhpsauds account has more than 120,000 followers and he follows the Saudi Sports Minister as another high profile new follower of the Newcastle online accounts. This is the account with closest ties to the Royal family, however.

Newcastle’s takeover is expected to be completed after Premier League checks are completed. Reports on Thursday suggested the issue of BeIN Sports piracy was proving to be a complicated issue but Premier League sources have also suggested the complications of the lockdown may also cause the process to be elongated.

Another layer that the authorities need to look at is the separate companies which will have a stake in Newcastle. Unlike when there is one individual in charge, there are at least three different shell companies which will take shares in the club and several named board members.

In the absence of an official statement, United fans will probably take their newest follower as another sign that the deal is expected to be completed imminently.
