London is bracing for yet more heatwave conditions as above-average temperatures are expected in the upcoming week.
The UK has already recorded three heatwaves this summer, partially caused by climate change, which is resulting in hotter and drier summers and more challenging living conditions.
But according to the Met Office, the summer heat is far from over and August is expected to see highs of 30 degrees yet again.
“A spell of hot weather looking increasingly likely at the start of this period,” the agency’s long-range weather forecast reveals.
“Much of England could see high temperatures for at least a couple of days, and there is a possibility that the heat could last further into the week, especially in the south, where there is also the possibility of some thunderstorms.”
So what do we know about the upcoming potential heatwave?
When will London be hit by the heatwave?
While the weekend isn’t looking too bad, the warm temperature is expected to swoop in by early next week.
It’s best to have the suncream ready and keep yourself hydrated as the capital braces for yet another scorcher across Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Predominantly across London and the southern parts of England, we’re looking at highs of over 30 degrees in the early parts of the coming week.
There is currently some uncertainty about how hot it might get, but some parts of the country could be in the mid-30s range.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Steven Keates, added, “We’re confident that temperatures will increase markedly by the start of next week, reaching the low 30s Celsius in parts of England on Monday and perhaps the mid 30s in a few places on Tuesday.
Keates added: “However, the length of this warm spell is still uncertain, and it is possible that high temperatures could persist further into next week, particularly in the south.”
“Ex-Dexter sets the wheels in motion for an uptick in temperatures, but the weather patterns then maintaining any hot weather are rather more uncertain”.
How long will it last for?
Meteorologists can’t say for sure how long the hot weather will last, but you can expect most of August to feel pretty warm.
As the country looks ahead to September and begins to near Autumn, cooler temperatures are expected.
According to the Met Office: “By early September, there are signals for high pressure to become less dominant with perhaps a greater chance of some rain, though there is some uncertainty in this aspect of the forecast.”
