'Another gear to come' - legend delivers Nottingham Forest verdict after 10 Championship games

It's impossible for Nottingham Forest fans not to be smiling as we head towards the latest international break.

The Reds have now played 10 league games and have only lost once, to sit third in the Championship.

That is a good time to judge a side and with a couple of Carabao Cup wins, including one against Derby, it is impossible not to give them a huge round of applause.

To not lose since the opening game of the season is great, but for me the biggest positive is that it feels like there is a lot more to come.

If you look at the last couple of league games, you could argue Barnsley were the better side and Blackburn definitely were for me.

Even so, Forest took four points from those games.

This time last year, they might have drawn with Barnsley and lost to Blackburn.

The smartest thing Sabri Lamouchi has done is lay down the foundations to make his team hard to beat.

That core through the middle of the pitch is really strong with Brice Samba doing really well in goal. Michael Dawson and Joe Worrall have been incredible and Ben Watson has been tremendous in front of them.

Of course, Lewis Grabban is always a massive goal threat in this division.

Forest missed Dawson at Blackburn, but I thought Worrall was outstanding. He's a natural leader and seemed to revel in the responsibility.

Tobias Figueiredo did fine coming into the side, but you want Dawson back as soon as possible.

What you'd hope to see now is the team go on to dominate games more, especially at home, like they did against Birmingham, as Lamouchi really gets his teeth into things.

The international break will help with that, but it's great to have the break come in these circumstances.

Normally, Forest go into these breaks in the bottom half of the table with the manager looking to find his best XI and best set-up tactically.

Lamouchi is in a great position because he is able to fine tune things now.

Forest didn't play well at Blackburn, but they got a point and that's no bad thing. They showed they have resolve and they believe in what the manager is doing.

To be third in the league and still have the feeling there is more to come is just fantastic.

If they can beat Brentford on Saturday they could be top of the league heading into the second international break of the season. Who would really have predicted that?

It won't be easy though. We've seen time and again how good Brentford are in this league.

They were outstanding against Barnsley in their last game, so anyone who thinks it will be an easy game at the weekend is in for a rude awakening.
