Another fourth quarter interception in the end zone saves Packers

For the second week in a row, an interception in the end zone during the fourth quarter helped the Green Bay Packers escape with a win against a division rival.

In Week 1, safety Adrian Amos capped off his Chicago homecoming by ranging far to his right and making an interception of Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in the end zone, preserving a 10-3 lead in the fourth quarter.

On Sunday at Lambeau Field, cornerback Kevin King might have one-upped Amos, skying high to intercept Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins in the corner of the south end zone with the Packers leading 21-16 and the Vikings threatening to take the lead with around five minutes left.

King covered Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs across the formation and then made a highly athletic play, going up in front of Diggs and coming down with the football.

Diggs appeared to have a step on King as he came across the back of the end zone, but the Packers cornerback said he anticipated a throw coming and made up ground in time to make the pick.

The interception was the second of King’s career. Last season, he made a huge interception in the fourth quarter as the Packers came from behind to beat the San Francisco 49ers at Lambeau Field.

Sunday’s pick was a redemption of sorts for King, who dropped an interception in Chicago and then got beat deep by Diggs in zone coverage for a touchdown earlier in the win over the Vikings.

The Packers are now 2-0, with hard-fought wins over the Bears and Vikings and an early lead in the NFC North. If the defense keeps making big plays, especially game-changing plays late in games, the Packers may not relinquish the division lead in 2019.
