Another farmer agitation 'need of the hour': Rakesh Tikait

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Bharatiya Kisan Union's (BKU) Rakesh Tikait on Sunday appealed to farmers to "keep their tractors ready" to participate in another farmer agitation, which he called " the need of the hour".

Tikait was speaking at a sit-in agitation in Muzaffarnagar, which saw dharnas at 11 different sites. Protests were also held in the adjoining districts of Shamli, Baghpat, Bijnor, and Saharanpur.

"The government must pass an MSP guarantee law and amend the National Green Tribunal's rule on 10-year-old tractors," he said.

He also raised objections to the Agneepath scheme and said, "Those calling the scheme good have had a secure government job for years. They must quit their jobs first and praise the scheme later."

Later, while speaking to the media, he said, "I have asked farmers to be ready for another big agitation. I also asked them to bring their 10-year-old tractors to it."

Meanwhile, Shamli saw a number of farmers hold dharnas. Farmer leader Rajan Jawla said, "On the call of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, we submitted a letter with our demands to the administration."
