Another drone sighted in Gurdaspur, BSF forces it to retreat

GURDASPUR: Two days after the Border Security Force (BSF) shot down a Pakistan drone, the force on Monday forced another one, flying about 100 metres inside Indian territory from the international border, to retreat.

BSF personnel spotted a flying object on Monday morning near Kassowal BoP in Gurdaspur sector, following which they opened fire, making the drone turn back to Pakistan. Following this, the BSF carried out the search operation but nothing was recovered till the time of filing of this report.

When contacted, BSF deputy inspector general Gurdaspur sector Prabhakar Joshi confirmed that BSF men had thwarted the intrusion attempt. He said the force was on high alert due to the thick fog cover.

On Friday night, BSF shot down a drone near Wan BoP in Ferozpur sector. It was the first shooting down of a Pakistani drone in Punjab. The same night, a suspected human intrusion bid was foiled in the area of BSF’s Chandu Wadala BoP in Gurdaspur sector.

Pak teen held 200m inside India

The BSF apprehended a Pakistan teenager 200m inside the international border with Pakistan late Sunday night near the Saharan border outpost (BoP) in Gurdaspur sector of Punjab.

There was a possibility that the intruder, 18-year-old Zulqrnain Sikander from Gujrat village in Mandi Bahavaldin district of Pakistan, was pushed in from Pak Rangers’ Chandrawali post, which was about over 1,000m from Saharan BoP, sources added. BSF recovered one smartphone, mobile charger, earphone, Rs 1,650 in Pakistan currency and one bottle of honey from him.

BSF DIG Prabhakar Joshi said they were investigating the reason for the Pakistani teenager’s cross-border intrusion.
