Another member of Essendon's hierarchy has quit, with assistant coach Cam Roberts to depart at season's end.

Roberts has been in charge of the Bombers' forwards for the past two seasons after joining the club ahead of the 2020 season.

He joins a list of departees this year including Brad Scott, who was sacked as head coach in May, Daniel McPherson, who resigned as football boss in July and will also leave at season's end, and Travis Varcoe, who left as Indigenous player development manager in July.

Roberts said despite the Bombers' woeful season - they're last on ladder with only two wins - he believed the club had an exciting future.

"To have had the chance to work alongside such committed players, coaches and staff over the past seven seasons has been a privilege," he said in a statement.

"I'm proud of the relationships we've built and the progress we've made together.

"I'll leave knowing Essendon has an exciting future ahead."

The Bombers will this week conduct their final interviews for their next head coach, with club great James Hird among the options.

Ex-player Mark McVeigh, Fremantle assistant Jaymie Graham and Adelaide's coaching director Murray Davis are believed to be the final four.

Interim head coach Dean Solomon will also meet with club hierarchy this week about the path forward, but is unlikely to be considered for the top job.
