'Another criminal off the streets': Prolific thief who hit homes in 24-hour spree jailed

A burglar who police said went on a theft 'spree' has been jailed.

Liam Rowe, 32, will spent Christmas behind bars serving an 18 month sentence.

Police have hailed his conviction as 'good news for Urmston'.

His string of burglaries all occurred within the Trafford suburb over a period of just 24 hours back in June.

Rowe, of Sussex Road, Partington, Trafford, pleaded guilty to eight counts of burglary.

At Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court on Friday, he was jailed by a judge for 18 months.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "On Sunday 9 June, police were made aware of several burglaries and attempted burglaries in the Urmston area within 24 hours.

"A number of properties were damaged and items including bicycles and tools were stolen.

"An offender was caught on CCTV and neighbourhood officers identified him as Liam Rowe."

Rowe was arrested and two stolen items were found in his home, police said.

Sergeant Jon Ezard welcomed the conviction and sentence.

"This is good news for Urmston - another criminal off the streets," he said.

"I hope this reassures residents that we do not tolerate this type of behaviour and are committed to tackling crime in their area.

"I'd like to thank the neighbourhood officers who used their local knowledge and worked tirelessly in order to identify Rowe on CCTV and bring him to justice."
