Another complaint made against teacher on indecent assault charges

Another allegation was made against a Mowbray Public School teacher accused of indecently assaulting four of his students, a Sydney court has heard.

Simon William Phillips has pleaded not guilty to 13 counts of indecent assault against four girls aged 11 and 12 at Mowbray Public School this year.

Police allege he kissed one of the girls on the forehead and touched her breast and buttocks and well as touching her back with his penis.

The three other girls are also alleged to have had their buttocks touched.

Phillips spent the night in custody before applying for bail in the Burwood Local Court this afternoon.

Prosecutors opposed the application, arguing the alleged offences were "nothing short of predatory" and that police believe more victims may come forward.

The court was told another complaint, made about a child at a different school, was made to Crime Stoppers this morning.

However Magistrate Michelle Goodwin accepted that Phillips had serious health problems and granted him bail, subject to a $200,000 surety to be posted by his father.

The magistrate also imposed a number of conditions, including that he not have any contact with children, and said he would essentially be placed under house arrest.

"This is the strictest bail that I can impose upon you," she said.

Phillips had been teaching at Mowbray for two years and had previously worked at schools including The Scots College and St Joseph's College.

The Education Department declined to comment yesterday other than to say he was no longer employed by them.
