Another Bristol City prospect heads out on loan to a League Two club

Following the transfer activity surrounding incomings into Ashton Gate around last weekend, Bristol City are now negotiating outgoings and in particular loan departures.

With Joe Morrell joining League One Lincoln City last week and Cam Pring linking up with former Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke at Walsall, centre-back Robbie Cundy has followed the left-back into League Two with a move to Exeter City.

Cundy joined the Robins on a two-year deal in mid-May from Bath City as the club's first signing of the summer with the predicted pathway always that he would be sent out on loan in his first season.

At Exeter City, the 22-year-old will work under the watch of manager Matt Taylor with the Grecians possessing a similar club culture as City.

Taylor has also forged close links with City via assistant coach Jamie McAllister with the pair studying their UEFA Pro License together in France last month.

Cundy was signed following an outstanding season at Bath City in which he was named the Romans Player of the Season but bar a solitary appearance for Oxford United in the EFL Trophy 2015, all his experience has been at non-league level.

Cundy said: “I’m delighted to be here, it’s a big club, and I played against them last year in pre-season and I liked the look of the team then and I’m ready to get going.

“The gaffer used to be a centre half and he has a good reputation of getting young lads on loan and improving them to get them into the first team so it was definitely a factor and I hope I can do the same.

“I had a good season last year and played every game and I think I’m ready for the step up now, hopefully I can do that, I’m excited.”

Along with the loan departures of Cundy, Morrell and Pring, goalkeeper Max O'Leary has joined Shrewsbury with loans manager Brian Tinnion revealing six similar deals have been agreed, leaving two more announcements to soon follow.

Midfielder Liam Walsh could be lined up for a League One switch with Lee Johnson admitting the 21-year-old needs a full season to find his rhythm following a number of injuries, while forward Saikou Janneh, midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson and defender Taylor Moore may also be considered for league loans.
