Another blow for BBC as they lose radio rights for Wales' autumn internationals

The BBC have suffered a further blow over Wales’ upcoming international campaign with talkSPORT winning the radio rights for the whole Autumn Nations Series.

Live TV coverage of the matches against New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Fiji will only be available via subscription channel Amazon Prime Video, with neither BBC Wales nor S4C broadcasting the games.

And now Radio Wales has also lost out in a major sea change, with talkSPORT broadcasting the autumn series for the first time.

Their coverage will include 50 matches broadcast exclusively over the next three years. This follows their coverage of the Lions tour of South Africa this summer.

Across the 16 live commentary matches this autumn, the coverage will be delivered by the likes of Wales star George North, Ben Kay and Gordon D’Arcy, along with presenter Craig Doyle and commentator Miles Harrison

Head of talkSPORT Lee Clayton said: “talkSPORT has strong credentials in rugby and we are delighted to expand our coverage across the Autumn Nations Series.

“As a network we are powered by fans, and our experienced line up of former internationals and first-class rugby commentators will bring supporters all the insight, analysis and reaction across a fascinating month of action.”

Six Nations Rugby CEO Ben Morel said: “We can’t wait to get this partnership with talkSPORT underway. “They have award-winning credentials in covering live sport and we are really looking forward to hearing their coverage.”

talkSPORT’s live coverage of the Autumn Nations will begin on October 30 with Scotland versus Tonga, followed by Wales against New Zealand.

It’s understood that Radio Cymru are still hopeful of retaining Welsh language radio commentary rights.
