Another Black Lives matter protest is taking place in Manchester this weekend

Another Black Lives Matter protest is taking place in Manchester this weekend.

Demonstrators will gather in Platt Fields Park, Fallowfield, from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday.

Thousands of people across Greater Manchester have attended protests in the weeks following the death of unarmed black man George Floyd in America.

The 46-year-old dad's death sparked demonstrations across the world after a video went viral on May 25, 2020, showing white police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on his neck and back as he pleaded for his life.

A poster advertising Sunday's protest, which is being organised by AllBlackLivesUK, urges those taking part to follow social distancing rules and wear masks and gloves.

It says: "Social distancing will be expected. Do not come if you are experiencing symptoms, are at risk or live with someone who is at risk."

Earlier this month thousands of people attended three protests across consecuitve days in the city centre.

Marches have also taken place in Bury and Salford.

Last weekend there were angry scenes in Bolton as a Black Lives Matter demonstration was met by a counter-protest, with police forced to keep the two sides apart.

And last night Manchester United players took the knee in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement ahead of their game against Tottenham Hotspur.
