Another batch of Celtic Pure bottled water recalled due to microbiological contamination

Another batch of water bottled by Celtic Pure has been recalled amid contamination fears.

The affected product is Applegreen Still Water in two-litre sizes with the best before date of 20/03/2021.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued the recall on Wednesday, saying the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa was detected in the water.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa poses a risk to people who have had their immune system severely compromised, such as those who have undergone transplants or chemotherapy.

However, it rarely causes illness in healthy people, the FSAI said.

A spokesperson said: "This batch does not comply with the legal requirements.  This implicated batch is unsafe or potentially unsafe and is subject to recall."

It's the third such recall this week after several other batches of water bottled by Celtic Pure were pulled from shelves across the country.

Retailers have been advised to withdraw the affected products from sale while customers who have purchased the water are advised not to drink it.

The FSAI have also advised retailers to display a point-of-sale recall notice in stores where the implicated batch was sold.

The recalls come as a large part of Dublin and parts of Kildare and Meath are placed under a Boil Water Notice.
