Another 67 people in the UK have died with coronavirus, according to latest figures

Another 67 people across the UK have died after testing positive for coronavirus, the Department of Health and Social Care has said.

The official government figures reveal that 44,198 people have now died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after testing positive for coronavirus as of 5pm on Friday.

The latest 67 deaths are more than half the 137 number of deaths reported on Friday in the UK.

It comes as many pubs, restaurants and hairdressers in England reopened on Saturday as lockdown measures were eased by the UK government.

The number of deaths reported over weekends tends to be lower than on weekdays, but it appears to reflect a general downward trend in the epidemic.

Separately, NHS England had earlier announced 39 people had died after testing positive for coronavirus in hospitals in England, bringing the total number of reported deaths in hospitals to 28,871.

The patients were aged between 45 years old and 99 and all had underlying health conditions.

The government figures do not include all deaths involving Covid-19 across the UK, which are thought to have now passed 55,000.

Public Health Wales said earlier today a further five people have died after testing positive for Covid-19, taking the total number of deaths to 1,530.

The total number of positive tests has increased by 34 to 15,875.

The Department of Health and Social Care figures reveal that overall there have been 44,198 deaths - 39,626 deaths in England, 2,488 in Scotland and 554 in Northern Ireland and 1,530 in Wales.

And there have been a total of 284,900 UK lab-confirmed coronavirus cases - of these 244,991 were in England, 18,287 in Scotland, 15,875 in Wales and 5,747 n Northern Ireland.

The daily increase in lab-confirmed UK cases today was 624.
