Another 18 people have died in Greater Manchester's hospitals from coronavirus

Another 18 people have died in Greater Manchester's hospitals after contracting coronavirus.

The total number of lives lost to COVID-19 in our region now stands at 1,677 - up from 1,659 on Sunday.

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust recorded another seven deaths in its latest data. Three died at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Two more people lost their lives at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust's hospitals.

The Royal Bolton also recorded two more death while another person died while under the care of Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Another patient died of COVID-19 at The Christie hospital.

Though these are the most up to date figures released by NHS England, the total number of deaths caused by COVID-19 is likely to be much higher. The total number of coronavirus deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of May 18, is now:

  • Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 200

  • Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - 9

  • Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 347

  • Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 404

  • Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 4

  • Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 162

  • Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 173

  • Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 142

  • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 13

  • Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 223

A further 122 people have died in English hospitals, bringing the national hospital death toll to 24,739.

Some of the larger trusts run several hospitals in Greater Manchester.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust oversees the Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI), Wythenshawe Hospital and Trafford General, while Pennine Acute is in charge of North Manchester General Hospital, Fairfield Hospital, the Royal Oldham Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary.
