Another 16 coronavirus-related deaths recorded at Greater Manchester's hospitals

Another 16 people have died at Greater Manchester's hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus.

The latest NHS figures bring the region's hospital death toll to 5,798.

In the last 24-hour reporting period, eight further coronavirus-related deaths were reported at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Three deaths were recorded at the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, and three at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust reported two more deaths.

The total number of coronavirus-related deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of Thursday, March 25, is:

  • Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 643 (+3)

  • Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - 9

  • Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 1,158 (+8)

  • NHS Nightingale Hospital North West - 6

  • Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 1,572 (+3)

  • Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 8

  • Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 495

  • Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 548 (+2)

  • Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 575

  • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 28

  • Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 756

A further 73 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 86,053.

Patients were aged between 34 and 101 and all except five - aged between 60 and 86 - had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths were between March 30 last year and March 24 this year, with the majority being after March 18, 2021.

There were 24 other deaths reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

Each day the NHS in England publishes the number of deaths recorded by each hospital trust in the last 24-hour period.

These are deaths where the person had tested positive for the virus or where COVID-19 was mentioned on their death certificate.

NHS England's daily figures sometimes include previously uncounted deaths that took place several days - or even weeks ago.

They do not include deaths in care homes or community settings.
