Another 14,000 coronavirus cases confirmed as UK death toll rises by 76

More than 14,000 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the UK in the last 24 hours.

The number of deaths has also increased by 76 - up by 57 on Monday's figure of 19.

The government said that, as of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 14,542 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK - up by 1,948 on Monday.

This takes the overall number of cases confirmed to 530,113.

A further 76 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday.

This brings the UK total to 42,445.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 57,600 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Figures also reveal that there are now 393 patients on ventilation - up by five - and a total of 2,833 in hospital - an increase of 496.

All figures are based on Public Health England data published on Tuesday.
