Another 12 people have died in Greater Manchester's hospitals after testing positive for Covid-19

Another 12 people have died in Greater Manchester's hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus.

It means the region's covid hospital death toll is now 5,688, the latest NHS England figures show.

In the last 24 hours another four deaths were reported at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, while three people died at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

There were two fatalities at both Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, while one person died at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.

The total number of coronavirus-related deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as Tuesday, March 9, is:

  • Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 624 (+1)

  • Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - 9

  • Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 1,127

  • NHS Nightingale Hospital North West - 6

  • Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 1,547 (+2)

  • Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 8

  • Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 492

  • Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 536 (+2)

  • Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 563 (+4)

  • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 28

  • Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 748 (+3)

Across England a further 164 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 84,631, NHS England said on Tuesday.

Patients were aged between 11 and 100.

All except eight, aged between 49 and 87, had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths were between December 20 and March 8, with the majority being on or after March 4.
