The government has said another 1,348 people have died within 28 days of receiving a positive Covid-19 test.
This brings the total coronavirus -related deaths in the pandemic in the UK to 97,329.
And the numbers of people who tested positive for the virus within 24 hours was 33,352, it was announced on Saturday afternoon.
This is down by 79,858 (or 23.5 per cent) in the last seven days.
The number of deaths, however, over the last week has risen by 1,017 to 8,739 people (an overall increase of 13.2 per cent).
And on vaccinations, up to and including January 22, there have been 5,861,351 people who have received their first dose.
A further 468,617 people have been administered their second dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
NHS England issued a regional breakdown of the vaccination figures.
It showed that in the North West between December 8 and January 22, there have been 711,594 first dose vaccinations administered and 63,401 second doses - a total of 774,995 doses.
NHS England earlier announced a further 710 deaths of hospital patients in England. It said patients were aged between 25 and 101.
All, except 33 people aged between 28 and 93, had underlying health conditions.
The deaths were between May 27 and January 22. There were 36 other deaths reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.
The R rate - or rate of reproduction of the virus - is currently estimated to be between 0.8 and 1 as of yesterday.
This means it has a daily growth rate within the range of minus 4 per cent and minus 1 per cent.
