Anonymous critic leaves Edinburgh graffiti artists harsh 'student feedback' reviews

Graffiti has long blighted many parts of Edinburgh and washing it off is only a temporary solution.

But someone with a critic's eye has come up with a novel way of tackling the problem in Leith.

At least one "student feedback" letter has appeared on top of a newly-scrawled graffiti tag on a communal bin.

Written in the style of a lecturer marking coursework, the anonymous critic offers some harsh words for the would-be artist who sprayed an indecipherable pink mark on the bin lid.

Alix Macdonald spotted the review on Saturday morning and shared photos on Facebook. She told us the identity of the reviewer was a mystery.

The letter implies the art critic has observed this graffiti artist's previous work.

Giving a grade of C-, it says: "Some improvement from last effort, however, C- is a pass for this course.

"In order to improve your grade please practice your work before committing to a final piece as discussed.

"Content is lacking in originality and execution, pelase use your development sketchbook to practice your hand-eye coordination.

"Research into other contemporary artists of this genre would lead to a more nuanced understanding of the tagging scene.

"Overall pass, room for improvement."
