April 29--PAWS Chicago is hosting its annual Adopt-A-Thon, starting 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, and ending 11 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the PAWS Chicago Lincoln Park Adoption Center, 1997 N. Clybourn Ave. About 125 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will be up for adoption.
The goal of this 36-hour event is to save lives through adoption, as well as to raise awareness of pet overpopulation and the killing of homeless animals. The spring season brings an abundance of litters and an increase in animals going homeless. Animal control facilities and traditional "open door" shelters are more likely to become overcrowded and euthanize animals this time of year. In 2015 nearly 10,000 cats and dogs were killed in Chicago.
