An annual flower show celebrating orchids started on Thursday at Tokyo Dome City's Prism Hall in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo.
The JGP International Orchid and Flower Show, which is organized by The Yomiuri Shimbun and NHK among others, will be held through March 31.
As a measure for avoiding novel coronavirus infections, admission is limited to once every 30 minutes. Reservations need to be made for the date and time of visits when tickets are purchased.
The show opened at 9 a.m. on Thursday, and visitors disinfected their hands and had their temperatures taken at the entrance before walking through an orchid gate.
Orchids are called "ran" in Japanese, and many visitors took photos of "Spring 'Ran' Way," a display of 30,000 Japanese orchid flowers of the Ebine variety that bloom in many colors, such as purple and orange.
"I enjoy coming to this event every year, so I'm glad that it's being held," said a 73-year-old part-time worker from Yokohama. "Gazing at [orchids] gives me peace of mind," he said.
