Annual Dumfries Christmas fair becomes virtual event due to coronavirus pandemic

The annual two-day Dumfries Christmas Fair is going virtual from next Monday.

Regarded as a festive institution in the town – raising both Christmas spirits and money for charity – the special event is usually held in the Easterbrook Hall which is closed because of the pandemic.

So, organiser, Sheri Blackett, has taken it online this year which also means it has the potential to reach a wider audience. Last year’s event at the Easterbook Hall had more than 20 stall-holders from Dumfries and further afield offering unique gifts for sale in the build-up to Christmas.

More than 750 people attended across the two days and they managed to raise approximately £14,000 which helped CLIC Sargent and the Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institution. Sheri said: “One of the sectors that has suffered most through this crisis are charities.

"We want to encourage more shoppers to join in the online Dumfries Christmas Fair and help us increase the amount of money we are then able to give to CLIC Sargent and the Dumfries and Galloway Carers Centre which are our two chosen charities for this year.”

She added: “To support us, after Monday through to mid February, please go to http://www.brilliantlittlebrands.com/dumfriesfair. Here you will find a fantastic array of wonderful and unusual shops selling everything from festive foods to unique gifts and everything in between.

“It really is the perfect place to do all your Christmas shopping and to find something spoiling for yourself. Think of the money you are saving on petrol and parking. The real bonus is that 10 per cent of everything spent will be split between our two well deserving charities, CLIC Sargent – one of the UK’s leading cancer and leukaemia charities – and the Dumfries and Galloway Carers Centre.

“To ensure this money goes to these charities please make sure that ‘dumfriesfair’ is part of the web address.

"Please let as many people as possible know about this as distance is no longer a limiting factor. Happy shopping and a heartfelt thank you for your support.”
