Annual car raffle drives vital funds for Lanarkshire charity

Big-hearted Lanarkshire residents helped raise more than £38,000 for St Andrew’s Hospice through the charity’s annual grand car raffle.

Paul Mooney was the lucky winner whose ticket was drawn from the thousands of entries to win the star prize of a brand new Hyundai i10, donated by event sponsors Arnold Clark.

The Newarthill resident said he was “very surprised” to have won the top prize, adding of the news: “I just couldn’t believe it – to be honest, I thought it was a wind up!”

His brother John picked up the car on his behalf as it was handed over at the Airdrie hospice by deputy head of fundraising Louise O’Donnell and Arnold Clark representatives Paul Gallagher and Taylor Jaconelli-Ford.

Runners-up Mary Gebbie from Bellshill and Wishaw resident Mary O’Kane won the two cash prizes of £500 and £250 in the hospice’s vital annual fundraiser.

Louise said: “We’d like to thank everyone for showing their support by buying tickets and Arnold Clark for their support with the car, which is much appreciated.

“The funds raised are crucial to the hospice, especially during these challenging times, and will help to provide compassionate, expert care and support for patients and their loved ones.

“For us to be able to give away a car as well as two cash prizes, and seeing the community come together and buy their tickets for the big raffle, has been a lovely thing.”

“It’s thanks to the many kind-hearted people who buy raffle tickets, purchase goods in our shops, leave gifts in their wills and take part in our events that St Andrew’s Hospice is able to continue providing care and comfort to the people of Lanarkshire at a time when they need it most.”
