Annual cancer fundraiser offers culinary creativity

Pink drinks. Eat Drink Pink

The Peninsula Bangkok is once again to present a one-of-a-kind culinary showcase dubbed Eat Drink Pink on Oct 1 to support underprivileged breast cancer patients.

This year the hotel joins hands with an elite selection of restaurants and bars from across Bangkok to present a philanthropic event graced with imaginative yet meaningful dishes and drink concoctions.

The project, launched in 2015, aims to raise funds for the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer Foundation. The past three Eat Drink Pink events brought more than 2 million baht to the foundation.

Part of the fund is used to support Pink Park Village, scheduled to open in October, which provides comprehensive cancer care by an experienced team of doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, pharmacists and nutritionists.

The hospice and convalescence village is equipped with advanced imaging technologies, a cutting-edge laboratory and molecular tests that were previously beyond the resources of any single institution in Thailand. Thus it promises a sanctuary for underprivileged patients and terminal ones without families to look after them.

The rest of the fund contributed to transforming the Chulalongkorn Hospital's breast-cancer centre.

Celebrated dining institutions to participate in this years' event are Michelin-rated L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, Chim by Siam Whisdom, Bo.lan and Sühring, as well as Issaya Siamese Club, which ranked as Asia's 21st-best restaurant of 2018.

Other acclaimed restaurants joining include Bunker, Lenzi, LeDu, Baan, Opus, Il Fumo, Sensi, Sri Trat, Haoma, Freebird, Cocotte Farm Roast & Winery, Charcoal, Brasserie Cordonnier, La Casa Nostra, Acqua Restaurant, Blue Elephant, La Bottega di Luca, Birds Rotisserie and Canvas.

Among the brilliantly created culinary signatures to be featured are spicy Thai artichoke salad seasoned with organic shrimp paste and garnished with green caviar by Blue Elephant Thai restaurant; Caprese salad with mozzarella espuma, cherry tomato gelatin and tomato sauce by Sensi Italian restaurant; tuna tartare with chunky caponata by La Casa Nostra restaurant; grass-fed chicken liver Magnum in pink colour with 100% cacao chocolate by Haoma sustainable restaurant; and blackberry cracker with salmon floss, mango gel and crispy shallots by Freebird contemporary restaurant, to name just a few.

Eat Drink Pink 2018, hosted at the Peninsula Bangkok, will take place on Oct 1. Tickets cost 3,000 baht per person. All proceeds will be donated to the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer Foundation to support Pink Park Village.
