New web series Home, releasing on August 29, is about a happy family that celebrates all their cherished moments together, but then a day comes when they are asked to leave their home for no fault of theirs. The show stars Parikshit Sahni as the grandfather, Annu Kapoor as the father, Supriya Pilgaonkar as the mother and their two children -- played by Amol Parashar and Chetna Pande.
“The focus was on the people who are on the receiving end. This isn’t about creating villains, its all being run by individuals like you and me. With the kind of measly salaries, the clerks and others in these departments get, if we go beyond the ethics and morality of it, there are reasons to why it happens,” says director Habib Faisal, explaining the crux of the series that is loosely inspired by Campa Cola Compound case.
Why was Annu Kapoor cast as the father
“When you write, you create characters. You are not thinking which actor you will cast for the role. Like when I did my first film Do Dooni Chaaar, I didn’t think of Rishi Kapoor. I wanted to create a character who was as roly-poly as my father, and the actor who would have fitted this the best was Rishi Kapoor,” Faisal says, adding, “How I thought of casting Annu Kapoor was when I thought of the doctor who facilitated sperm donation, and for that film was basically there for comic relief but if that man’s house is to be taken away, what would he do.”
In the trailer there is a very sweet kiss exchanged between husband and wife, did it just happen naturally or was there a bit of preparation involved?
“There was no discussion as such- and it was a lot more than an intimate scene, it was an intimate conversation. Also when I came to know that it would be Annu with whom I would be doing the show then I knew that the both of us would work out something and just go with the flow,” explained Supriya.
Talking about the scene, Annu says, “The credit goes to Supriya completely. I on the other hand am not a pro, but neither am I an amateur. I have done a nude scene with Priyanka Chopra also in 7 Khoon Maaf. In fact, 30 years ago I had been put in a situation where I was supposed to shoot a suhaag raat scene and gave the girl so much respect that she kept saying that I am being too conscious with her. It was a Punjabi film, I think her name was Satnam Kaur and the scene was supposed to be shot in a tub.” He added, “I remember even in 7 Khoon Maaf Priyanka was feeling so conscious that I told Vishal we should just scrap the scene.”
