'Annoying' Line of Duty abbreviations prompt BBC announcer to step in as fans complain

A BBC announcer had to step in at the end of Line on Duty on Sunday night as many viewers shared the same gripe about its return.

After the series 5 finale drew a huge audience back in 2019, the chief protagonists of AC-12 were back in action this weekend for a new run of episodes.

But, by half way through episode 1, confused fans were left seriously annoyed by the same problem - the Line of Duty cast used too many abbreviations that were completely lost one them.

The biggest one, which had many searching for answers on Google was 'CHIS', which as the credits rolled at 10pm, the announcer revealed was a Covert Human Intelligence Source.

Taking to Twitter in disapproval at the baffling crime in the first episode of series 6, one viewer posted: "Line of Duty has lost me now. What’s with all the abbreviations. Robotic police officers. Interviewing a supposedly educationally challenged person and expecting answers. Only half hour in and I’m not as hooked"

Another tweeted: "Watching Line of Duty was like reading a research paper. I’ve never heard as many abbreviations. Thank god for google," and, in firm agreement, a third perplexed fan, commented: "Still watching #LineofDuty because I’ve had to stop every 10 minutes to google abbreviations!"

Other viewers were lost full stop with the series 6 opener and resigning themselves to have to watch at least a few episodes of series 5 again to bring themselves up to speed.

All those who glued to/confused by to the action in episode 1 will be delighted by the news that Line of Duty series 6 will be the longest so as it will have SEVEN episodes.

In episode 2, which will air on Sunday, March 28,, AC-12 begin to suspect a cover up as they launch an investigation into DCI Davidson.

The ream delve into Gail Vella’s controversial reporting for clues to her murder, and find links to previous AC-12 cases, before their inquiries take a shocking turn when they begin to scrutinise Jo's personal life.
