Announcement over future of Nottingham Beach and Winter Wonderland

The Nottingham Beach and Winter Wonderland events will continue to be run by the same company until 2023 after a contract was extended with the organisers.

In 2016, the contract to stage both winter and summer events was let on a five-year contract to Mellors Group Events.

The Winter Wonderland of 2020 was to be the final event to go ahead under the agreement.

But the city's Christmas Market was pulled after just one day of trading last year as concerns were raised over social distancing when the city was under Tier 3 restrictions.

The Nottingham Beach was unable able to go ahead last year and the city council has agreed to approve the extension of the contract, for the events to be run until the completion of the Winter Wonderland in 2023.

It not not yet been confirmed whether this year's beach event will go ahead.

A city council report states: "Due to Covid-19, neither the Nottingham Beach nor Winter Wonderland events were able to be staged in 2020.

"When submitting the tender in 2015, the operator based their investment decisions on a five-year contract term, whereas only four years of events have been able to be held.

"During the five years of the contract term, the Mellors' summer and winter offers have developed both in terms of event experience and in regards to the financial return the council has received.

"The proposal therefore is to vary the contract to allow for the carry over of the 2020 events to 2021.

"Within the existing contract the council has the option to extend the contract period for further period up to a maximum aggregate extension of two years.

"It is therefore proposed that the contract is extended following the completion of the original term (which will be 2021 under a variation) for the two permitted years."
