Announcement on future of temporary Nottingham Nightingale Court expected 'in due course'

An announcement is expected "in due course" on the future of Nottingham's Nightingale Court.

The temporary court was set up at the Mercure Nottingham Sherwood Hotel on Mansfield Road to help deal with the backlog of cases caused by the Covid pandemic.

Her Majesty's Court and Tribunal Service had announced the court in the hotel was extended to run until March 2022.

But when the Ministry of Justice was asked for an update, Nottinghamshire Live was told further details would be released "in due course".

Nottingham was the first place in the East Midlands to get a Nightingale Court.

Speaking in March 2021 when the court opened, Courts Minister Lord Wolfson QC said: "We are determined to deliver swifter justice for people across Nottingham and this new Nightingale Court will boost those efforts.

"This is part of our action to tackle the impact of the pandemic on our courts and reduce delays for victims.

"As a result, the number of outstanding cases in the magistrates’ is falling and the number of trials being listed in the Crown Court increases each week."

Garin Dart, general manager at the Mercure Hotel, said at the time: "We are proud to open our doors and support the needs of Government and the local community in these challenging times."
