'Announce Puncheon!' - Some Crystal Palace fans respond as former club captain nets in friendly

Crystal Palace's U23 squad claimed a first victory of pre-season this evening (Tuesday) as the Eagles won 2-1 against Corinthian-Casuals.

But one of the goalscorers in the game has got Palace fans talking, with former club captain Jason Puncheon netting the opening goal of the game.

The 33-year-old, who was released by Palace after six years at the club, was involved in the game as the club reported that he looks to "maintain his fitness ahead of his next career move".

And he was on the scoresheet, netting with a low shot from 20 yards out, finding the bottom corner of the net to give Palace the lead.

The hosts levelled the scores just after the half hour mark, but Palace's youngsters claimed victory thanks to a goal from Kian Flanagan in the closing stages of the game, as Richard Shaw's side picked up their first win of pre-season.

But it was the inclusion of Puncheon - and his goal - that attracted attention from Palace fans, after the midfielder found the target.

Puncheon found his opportunities limited at Palace last season, making just eight appearances for Roy Hodgson's side in all competitions, before spending the second half of the campaign on loan at Huddersfield Town, where he featured seven times.

He was subsequently released by Palace in the summer, bringing to an end a six-year association with his hometown club.

But having been involved for the Eagles tonight (Tuesday), albeit only for 45 minutes as he was substituted at half time, his inclusion has got some fans commenting on his future, with Palace only making one signing so far this summer; 31-year-old Stephen Henderson on a free transfer.

Here's what some fans have been saying on social media.
