Announce budget session one month in advance: Punjab Congress to speaker

CHANDIGARH: The Congress party has asked Punjab assembly speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan for announcing the date of the budget session at least a month in advance following the Parliament’s pattern, so that the members could get enough time to prepare for the discussions to be held during the session.

Leader of opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa, along with party leaders Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Sukhpal Singh Khaira, met the speaker to discuss various issues to be taken up during the upcoming budget session.

Besides urging the speaker for an early announcement, the Congress leaders also asked him to allow discussion on various reports of Vidhan Sabha committees and departmental administrative reports, to “strengthen the democratic functioning in the state”. It was also requested that for deliberate discussions on various burning issues of public interest, sufficient sittings of the assembly must be regularly held.

Bajwa also implored the speaker to take notice of the breach of privilege moved by him, which is pending before the committee on privileges.
