Annie's Burger Shack's summer street party will have dachshund racing - and free food

Annie's Burger Shack's summer street party is back for a sixth year with a bounty of new events, entertainment and, of course, plenty to sink your teeth into.

As well as live bands, booze, outdoor food and kids' games there will be dachshund races, inspired by wiener dog races at German beer festival Oktoberfest.

Abbie Roddis, from the American burger restaurant in the Lace Market, said: "If you love sausage dogs then you will be able to see them run a cute little race towards their owners and win stacks of doggie treats.

"Entrants are being gathered from Facebook and owners can enter their dogs.  As it's a last minute addition to the party, I'm sure we will need some more doggies on the day though."

The fun-filled event will be held outside the restaurant in Broadway, on July 6.

Annie herself, Anmarie Spaziano, will be demonstrating some of her favourite breakfasts and burgers and giving out samples.

However, the annual eating challenge won't be taking place this year. Previously competitors have gone head to head in all-American pie eating contests, and Annie's Hottest Deathray Challenge, but with no insurance company willing to cover it, the event has been shelved.

Also new this year is an illustration battle. Artists will be timed to create an illustration around a theme and their work will be auctioned off to the public.

When the crowd gets hungry, there will be a kiosk outside selling adult burgers and fries for £10 and kids' burgers for a fiver.

Gin and beer will be on sale and entertainment for kids includes a magic show and balloon modelling.

Taking place from midday until late, entry is free.

"We have searched high and low for insurance but unfortunately nobody is willing to insure. But we are super excited about these new events we have going on and hopefully will draw the crowds just as much," added Abbie.
