Annie Cordy dead: Belgian actress and singer honoured by royalty dies at 92

Annie Cordy has died.

The Belgian actress and singer was 92.

Sharing the sad news on Twitter, TV host Christophe Beaugrand-Gerin wrote: "I'm heartbroken tonight Mrs. Annie Cordy, you have given us so much joy, energy and emotions We won't forget you"

Annie's last on-screen appearance was in 2018 TV movie Illiterate.

She began her acting career way back in 1954 and went on to appear in more than 50 films and TV shows.

She provided the voice for Grandmother Willow in the French version of Disney film Pocahontas.

Annie, whose real name was Leonie, Baroness Cooreman, was born in Belgium in 1928.

As well as her glittering career on screen, she also staged a number of memorable performances at the famous Paris Olympia in France.

She also enjoyed much success as a singer, most notably, remaining at the number 1 spot in the French charts for five weeks with her song La Ballade de Davy Crockett in August 1956.

She was given the title of Baroness in 2004 by King Albert II of Belgium, in recognition of her life's achievements.

It's reported that Annie died after suffering a cardiac arrest at her home in Vallauris, France.

She lived in the home with her niece.

It's said that attempts were made to revive Annie but she was sadly pronounced dead.

As well as being made a Baroness by King Albert II, Annie was also made a Commander of the Order of the Crown in 2013.
