Anneka Rice 'signs up' for new Strictly Come Dancing series

Anneka Rice has "signed up" to be a part of Strictly Come Dancing 2019.

The 60-year-old presenter was said to be keen to take part last year and Strictly bosses have finally landed her for the next series, The Sun claims.

The TV presenter, who has remained out of the spotlight in recent years, is considered to be a “top signing” for the hit programme due to her fame.

BBC's Challenge Anneka first hit our screens 30 years ago after Channel 4's Treasure Hunt made her a household name in the 80s.

A source told the publication: “Strictly believe they've made a top signing in Anneka.

“She's a TV institution and a familiar face to viewers who'll be rooting for her. Anneka is in great shape and can't wait to strut her stuff.”

When she quit the industry to raise her children, Anneka was fired by her agent and rather than seeking out a new one, the star revealed that she decided to become her own.

Anneka last appeared on British TV when she took part in Celebrity Hunted for Stand Up to Cancer in 2017.

She announced earlier this year that she was once offered the role of a Bond Girl after she was twice awarded the 'coveted' Rear of the Year award at the height of her career.

In later years, Anneka has become a regular voice on the air waves, with her having various shows on BBC Radio 2.

She currently presents the Pick of Radio 2 on Saturday night from midnight, which brings the best bits from the station over the previous week.

The Standard has contacted representatives for Strictly and Anneka.
