Anne Robinson jibes at single mums and people on benefits in shock Weakest Link clip

Anne Robinson was known as The Queen of Mean when she hosted The Weakest Link, and a clip that has resurfaced from those days has been causing controversy on Twitter.

The TV presenter, 76, has been announced as the new host of Countdown, replacing Nick Hewer who quit the Channel 4 show late last year.

Since the news broke, Twitter users have been sharing videos of Anne on The Weakest Link, with many saying that Anne was so mean that the scenes would never air now.

One such video saw Anne make offensive comments about single mums, those on benefits, lesbians and divorced women.

The clip was posted to Twitter and branded "disgusting".

Anne had asked a contestant called Ann what she does, and she explained that she was a full-time single mum to three boys.

"Three great boys?" Anne asked, with Ann responding: "Three great boys."

"So how many ASBOs?" Anne asked.

The contestant seemed baffled and asked her to repeat what she said, which Anne did happily.

Anne went on: "How many of your three boys have got tags on their ankles?"

Ann told her "none so far", so Anne asked: "You're doing benefits are you?"

"I was waiting for this. I'm doing a 24/7 job really," Ann said, before adding: "I am on benefits, yes."

"And what happened to the husband?" Anne continued.

Looking very uncomfortable, Ann told her: "Well I've had two husbands to be honest, I think I've worn them both out."

"You didn't go gay did you?" Anne asked.

The contestant replied: "No, but sometimes, living with three boys, I have thought there's a lot to be said for going lesbian, quite frankly."

The clip has now had 1.5 million views on Twitter, with nearly 3,000 retweets and 11,000 likes.

"Beyond disgusting and nasty, cant believe this was even allowed," the Twitter user who shared it wrote.

The Mirror has contacted a rep for Anne Robinson for comment.
