Anne-Marie forced to apologise after her performance on Ant and Dec Saturday Night Takeaway

Singer Anne-Marie has apologised after a sketch she performed with Ant and Dec was aired live on Saturday Night Takeaway, last night.

During the segment, 28-year-old sang her single Ciao Adios while performing karate moves with the Geordie-duo.

Ant and Dec wore bandannas  with an image resembling the controversial "Rising Sun" Japanese flag on.

The costume choice has caused upset as the symbol is associated with the era of Japanese imperialism, including its occupation of the Korean peninsula and parts of China.

The statement was posted on Anne-Marie's social media, which reads: "I sincerely apologise to all those who were affected and hurt by my appearance last night on a UK TV [show].

"I want you to know I had nothing to do with the costumes on this sketch.

"Unfortunately, education on this part of the history wasn't done and I am also hurt by the pain this signifies for so many people.

"I'm truly sorry and I promise you that this will not happen again.

"Our team is talking to the TV station, working on taking down the footage, so that it does not cause any more pain."
