Anne Hathaway reveals how she was told to lose weight at 16 for movie

Actress Anne Hathaway has revealed she was told at 16 to keep her weight down for a TV role.

In a cover shoot and interview for Allure magazine, Hathaway said the comments were made when she won a role in drama series, Get Real.

"At 16 years old, it was ‘Congratulations, you have the part. I'm not saying you need to lose weight. I'm just saying don't gain weight,'" she said, "which, of course, means you need to lose weight."

After the television series, which ran from 1999 - 2000, Hathaway would go on to star in movies including The Princess Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada, winning an Oscar in 2013 for Les Miserables.

Now 36, Hathaway told the magazine she is encouraged by how much things have changed in Hollywood, but feels there's still a long way to go.

"I am cautious in my praise of how Hollywood is shifting. There is so much more body inclusivity— which is great! — but the thin thing is definitely still the centralized ‘normal' expectation" she added.

Hathaway recently announced she is pregnant with her second child, sharing the news to her 14 million Instagram followers. She added that it had "not been a straight line" to the pregnancy. "For everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies" she noted.
