Anne Boleyn's Jodie Turner-Smith blasts Royals for failing to protect Harry and Meghan

Anne Boleyn star Jodie Turner-Smith has hit out the Royal family and insisted they should have done more to protect Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The actress appears in the title role of Channel 5's new period drama, and she was asked her thoughts on the modern day Royals in an interview on Good Morning Britain today.

During her chat with Richard Arnold, Jodie, 34, admitted she felt the Royals could have looked at Harry's marriage as a "way to evolve".

She said: "There's a lot of resistance to new things that can push that institution forward in a way that more represents the world today.

"I think they could have looked at this marriage and that relationship as a way to evolve.

"And could have embraced it and embraced her fully and protected her and protected their son in way that didn't make him [Harry] feel like he needed to leave."

Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping down as senior members of the Royal family back in January 2020.

They declared they were moving to Canada before later setting up home in Meghan's native California.

Earlier this year, they went public with a series of bombshells about life in the Royal family in a tell-all interview with media mogul Oprah Winfrey.

During the chat, the pair made a series of allegations including claims that Meghan was on the verge of suicide and was refused help, and that a member of the family had made racist comments by questioning what colour his skin would be prior to his birth.

A statement from the palace said at the time: "The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.

"Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

"Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."
