Annan Riding of the Marches returns with grand parade through the town

Annan Riding of the Marches returned on Saturday with a grand parade through the town with decorated floats and entertainment.

Dozens of horsemen and women followed the time honoured tradition of inspecting the burgh boundaries to ensure that the landmarks, cairns and other features have not been removed or tampered with.

The day began with Cornet Oran Keenan, his Lass Katie Anderson and Standard Bearer Katy Nelson departing from the Fish Cross to Market Square where the standard was collected for the trip around the boundary points.

The riders later arrived at Landheads for the historical hole in the hedge ceremony.

The carnival parade took place in the afternoon when 14-year-old Queen of the Border, Caelan Ferguson, and her royal retinue were warmly greeted by the crowd of spectators.

The entertainment continued at the Annan Academy Playing Fields and included a mini Highland Games and the pipe band contest.

The grand finale to end a memorable day saw the massed gathering of pipe bands marching along the High Street.

The presentation of prizes to the competition winners was followed by a medley from Annan A.P.D Town Band and the Royal Burgh of Annan Pipe Band.
