Community-minded Newstart Recycle’s Tony Nisbet is stepping up to support NHS staff and carers in Annan.
Between 1pm and 3pm each Wednesday and Saturday workers on the Covid-19 front line can get their bottle of hand sanitiser refilled for free at the loading bay in Queensberry Street by Tony and fellow founder Frank McGowan.
Tony said: “We are keen to help wherever we can and have had to gauge when the best times are for NHS workers and carers to come to us.
“The sanitiser needs to be dispensed in small spray bottles and we are asking them to bring the bottles with them.”
Newstart usually helps people with poverty and homelessness but had to close its warehouse selling second-hand goods because of Covid-19.
However, Tony jumped into action when he heard of the problems building up over the availability of hand sanitiser.
He helped out several small local businesses with sanitiser for their staff and has now extended that offer to frontline workers.
Councillors Sean Marshall and Archie Dryburgh have been giving a helping hand and Hardip Atwal of Atwal Stores has also offered support.
Tony said: “Some bottles have been donated by Atwal’s Shop in Annan, who once again demonstrated their commitment to the community.
Newstart have also been giving away free DVDs to families in the town and working to supply fabric, threads and sewing machines to help the production of washbags, scrubs and masks.
