Annan Community Council providing kindling for elderly and vulnerable

Annan Community Council is aiming to keep the home fires burning.

It is providing kindling for elderly and vulnerable people in the area to keep their homes heated through the long winter months ahead.

Community councillor Joyce Wylie said: “For most of us this is not an issue, we have central heating or these new-fangled fire burners but not everyone does.

“We had an elderly lady in her 90s last year from Brydekirk, who sadly past away recently, who was reliant on an old home fireplace.

“With Covid we were not able to go door to door as much as we would have wanted last year but hopefully this scheme will help this winter.

“It is for people in genuine need who are struggling. Everybody should be kept warm in winter and this is a service we hope will help those who need it.”

The free bags of kindling for those in need are being distributed by the Community Payback team.

To apply phone Joyce on 01461 202627 or contact any community councillor.
