Annan care home holds special Olympic torch relay

A Dumfriesshire care home has set up an Olympic torch relay this week as a thank you gesture.

June Fitzpatrick, activities co-ordinator at the Advinia-owned Annan Court care home, has been involving residents in the Tokyo games through a number of events.

After 17 months coping with the pandemic, she thought it would be in the spirit of the Olympics to extend the hand of friendship and solidarity from the home to thank local people and businesses for all they have done to help its residents and staff – and felt a baton relay would do the trick.

Talented administrator Lorna White put her crafting skills to the challenge and created an Olympic-style torch as the baton.

June and a resident, former Macmillan Cancer nurse Fiona Walters, have helped it make an appearance all around the town.

June said: “Everyone has been real good sports and we are grateful to Lorna for making the torch.”
