Annan Athletic defender recalls "hardest year of his life" after extending Galabank stay

Matty Douglas said last season was the “hardest year of his life”.

The 25-year-old signed an extension with the club this week and he spoke of watching most of the campaign from the sidelines.

He said: “It’s great to sign for another season with Annan.

“Last year is the hardest year I’ve had in my career.

“I want to put that behind me and play a massive part in a historic season for the club to finish as high up as possible. I cannot wait to get started.”

He joins Greg Fleming, Scott Hooper, Josh Galloway, Tommy Goss, Wullie Gibson, Chris Johnston, Benjamin Luissint, Dominic Docherty, Aidan Smith and Tommy Muir for next season.

The club announced this week that 20-year-old Cameron Williamson has left Annan to join Stranraer.

He made 28 appearances for the Black and Golds since joining last summer, but struggled to nail down a starting spot mainly due to the form of Max Kilsby in the latter stages of the last season.

A statement said: “The club would like to thank Cammy for his time at the club and wish him all the best for the future.”

Another departure at the club this week was physio Craig Bourner.

He said: “It was a hard decision to make as I feel part of the Annan Athletic family now.

“Everyone has made me very welcome from the outset and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club. I was so glad we got promoted this year as it was my third play-off final with the club and I’m delighted it was third time lucky.”

The club is now taking applications for the role of club physio and anyone interested can find more information on the club’s website.
