Annan Athletic boss predicts "exciting" Dumfries and Galloway clash with Stranraer

Annan boss Peter Murphy has predicted their clash tomorrow with Stranraer will be “an exciting” game as they both play the same free flowing brand of football.

The Galabankies slumped to a 3-1 defeat to Elgin City last weekend but Murphy insisted that it was their best display of the season.

Murphy said: “We had three or four cleared off the line against Elgin in what was possibly our best performance of the season.

“We pinned them back as well in the last 10 minutes and Tommy Goss came close and Rob McCartney hit the target but obviously goals change games and we felt our keeper Greg Fleming was fouled when they scored another and we didn’t get an equaliser.

“Elgin scored an absolutely excellent goal from 35 yards and got a third off the underside of the bar and our problem was that we didn’t score when we were on top. It was difficult to take after creating eight good chances.”

“Now this weekend we are away to Stranraer who are similar to us so it should be an exciting game.

“They are like us in that they have scored a few goals early on in the season but also conceded a few.”

Murphy added: “If we play like we did against Elgin then I am confident we can go there and win the game.

“It will be an exciting game and we know both teams will give everything.

“We have been hit with an illness bug going around at our club, but hopefully the players affected should be fit for the weekend.”
