Annan Athletic boss hails "complete performance" after win over East Fife

Peter Murphy hailed his side’s 3-0 win over East Fife as the “complete performance”.

A brace from Chris Johnston and a third from Max Kilsby saw the Galabankies comfortably deal with East Fife.

After the game Murphy said: “The game was the most complete performance from my team.

“Chris Johnston got two goals, we could have had more, the possession we had was excellent so it’s very pleasing all round.”

East Fife troubled the Annan defence once in the 90 minutes, played the second half with 10 men and the Annan manager said his team deserved the three points after a comfortable afternoon.

He added: “They had a five-minute spell when we made a couple of mistakes and gave them an opportunity.

“They had one chance from Scott Shepherd and it’s their only real shot of the game.

“I said to the players before the game that East Fife felt that they got overrun last week by Stranraer and I thought they were going to come down here and try and mix it up by being a bit aggressive and try and get in our faces.

“I said we had to win that battle and move the ball around quickly and zip it about so that they can’t tackle you.

“I thought the players did really well.”

Murphy was able to add former Queen of the South boss Wullie Gibson to the line-up for Saturday’s match.

He said: “Wullie coming in on that right-hand side gives us another outlet.

“The link-up play from him and everyone was excellent.

“Scott Hooper, Tom Muir and Max Kilsby were winning the headers to keep us up in their half and when we had the outlet to get wide Wullie gave us that extra bit of quality.

“But on the other side I had Tony Wallace who keeps the ball really well.

“I know it’s the story to pick Wullie out but each player was excellent.”
