Annan Athletic boss fed up of falling victim to "wonder goals"

Annan Athletic boss Peter Murphy is fed up of his team falling victim to “wonder goals”.

And he reckons the Galabank side are due for a change in fortunes after a string of consistent performances that haven’t been reflected in points achieved – seven from their last five games.

Annan suffered the agony of losing to a 91st minute wonder strike by Stenhousemuir substitute Ross Forbes (above) against their play-off rivals last Saturday.

Murphy said: “Last week we hit the post and the bar and should have seen them off and then they score with a 35 yard wonder goal.

“I said to the players afterwards that there have been six goals against us this season that have been wonder goals and wonder strikes where you just have to stand back and clap.

“Our performances have been excellent.

“At Dumbarton we dominated the game (and lost). Against Stirling we dominated the game but conceded two goals in four minutes.” Annan entertain Elgin City in tomorrow’s league two clash and are looking for their first win over the Highland outfit.

Murphy said: “We have no new injury worries, everyone is fit and looking forward to the game, especially after last week.

“Elgin have been very difficult to beat this year so we are looking for a win.

“We have had some bad results against them – we lost 5-1 up there and 3-1 at home and drew 1-1 up at their place so we owe them one.”

Elgin suffered a similar fate to Annan last Saturday when bottom of the table Bonnyrigg Rose snatched an
89th-minute goal and all three points on their trip to the Highlands.

Play-off chasing Annan now sit fourth in the league, one behind Stenhousemuir and one ahead of East Fife, who face each other tomorrow.

The bookies have the Galabankies as odds-on favourites to win their encounter with the Highland outfit at 3/1 and the draw 13/5.
