Annan Athletic boss expecting tough League Two encounter with Edinburgh City

Annan return to league duty tomorrow with an away clash in League Two against Edinburgh City.

The capital side are a point above the Galabankies in the table with all to play for in their latest encounter.

And manager Peter Murphy recognises it’s another tough collision with the side managed by former Queen of the South chief Gary Naysmith.

He said: “They are all tough games in this division, but Edinburgh have a few experienced players in their side and we know what we’re up against.”

The Galabankies are boosted with their Scottish Cup third round win last weekend against Gala Fairydean with an Aidan Smith headed goal the difference in a 1-0 triumph.

They then drew giant killers Clydebank in the fourth round draw at Holm Park and Murphy said: “There is quite a connection between the clubs as their manager Gordon Moffat used to play for us.

“And one of their coaches Gary McMenamin is the brother of my assistant manager Colin and also played for us.

“A lot of junior clubs have a bit of money behind them and a bit of support as you could see when Clydebank beat Clyde last Saturday.

“So they cannot be taken lightly at all and are doing well in their division.

“There will be some atmosphere at the cup tie as there was against Clyde.”

The Bankies beat struggling League One outfit the Bully Wee 2-0 with goals in each half from Jamie Darroch and Nicky Little.

And they could have had more as they turned the screw on Clyde in a second half pounding.

Murphy, meanwhile, said of their cup triumph: “It was a good result for us and although we could have won by more, I am just happy that we got over the line and into the fourth round.”
