Annabel Rivkin on the cheap and cheerful mascaras

Annabel Rivkin swears by Avon mascaras

I am so over spending masses of money on sunglasses that I lose, or sit on, or somehow destroy.

It makes me feel foolish to part with all that money only to have to… part with all that money all over again. So now my sunglasses are Topshop and the irritation I feel when they are inevitably left on the seat of an Uber or horribly scratched is lessened.

And I’m starting to feel the same way about mascara. I just don’t know that you need to spend more than a tenner on it. Firstly, I like to have a few knocking around; some vaguely natural, some shoutily dramatic. I like to spread them about a bit; car, handbag, party make-up bag, daily make-up bag. And I lose them. Or they dry up, or the seal breaks. And I can’t be quite so laissez faire with smart mascaras. So, generally, I don’t use them.

Take a look at the Avon mascara range: it delivers. I’ve been employing the muscles of Avon’s Mark Big & Extreme, £9, for a while now, as it creates root to tip volume with little clog and no flake. But it’s got an interesting new one called True 5-in-1 Lash Genius, also £9, which is about length, lift, volume, definition and a true, sharp black. So now I’m going to plant this stuff around my life until I find a new one that I want to flirt with. Cheaper choices make for more flexibility. Which makes for more fun. (avon.co.uk)
