The first Monday in May is nearly upon us, which means it is once again time to park yourself in front of the couch in your grottiest pyjamas and judge the outfits of the rich and famous as they walk the red carpet of the annual Met Gala.
And this year, Vogue editor and Met Gala Mami Anna Wintour has given some insight into what we can expect.
Wintour has been hosting the event for nearly 30 years and in that time, countless rumours have swirled about just what goes into planning the event — and how much oversight she has.
But in a recent appearance on Good Morning America, Wintour spilled the inside goss that we’ve all been dying to know.
A big rumour that has swirled around Met Gala discourse in recent years is that Wintour has to personally see all of the outfits before the event, but the Vogue mogul quickly dispelled this.
“No”, she said.
“Many call and ask our advice, so we try and help some of them as best we can. Some, no idea.”
She has, however, seen her co-chair Colman Domingo‘s outfit ahead of tomorrow’s event, which she called a “work of art”.
Domingo said he “died” when Wintour complimented his outfit, to which she elaborated: “it was a clever idea.”

Colman will co-chair the event alongside Wintour, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, LeBron James and Formula 1 driver and fashion icon Sir Lewis Hamilton. I mean it when I say, the girlies will be screaming tomorrow.
While she knows what Pharrell and Rocky are wearing to the event, Hamilton has kept his cards close to his chest — which means we must be in for a REAL treat.
“Lewis, I’m not sure I entirely believe him, says he doesn’t have a picture [of his outfit],” she said.
‘Pharrell and [A$AP] Rocky have both described to me what they’re wearing. It sounds perfect.
“I trust Lewis. Lewis totally knows what he’s doing.”
While she dispelled the rumour that she approves every individual outfit at the event, Met Gala staff and former work associates of the Vogue EIC, she is a bit of a control freak when it comes to the event.
According to excerpts from the 2022 biography Anna: The Biography, Wintour doesn’t learn Met staff names, keeps a list of who is “in” and “out”, and even reportedly tries to hide museum artifacts that she finds “ugly”.
This year’s theme is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which is based on the 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity by Monica L. Miller.
The theme will “illustrate how Black people transformed from being enslaved and stylized as luxury items, acquired like any other signifier of wealth and status, to autonomous self-fashioning individuals who are global trendsetters.”
You can catch all of the Met Gala fashion updates here all day tomorrow.
