Anna Wintour Finally Reveals How She Feels About Being Parodied In Devil Wears Prada

Anna Wintour has belatedly offered her thoughts on The Devil Wears Prada, the 2006 cinematic masterpiece that is widely believed to be about her.

If you’re unfamiliar with the titular devil, she took the form of the forever-iconic Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep), the editor-in-chief of the film’s fictional high-fashion magazine, Runway.

Though it was never outright confirmed to be based on Wintour, loins have remained perpetually girded as to the real-life inspiration behind Priestly — and now, the former editor of Vogue herself has reacted to the film years after it first hit screens.

While Wintour attended The Devil Wears Prada premiere way back when (choosing, infamously, to actually wear Prada), she has never publicly commented on the film until now. I guess you could say she’s moved at a glacial pace.

“Listen, it had a lot of humour to it. It had a lot of wit,” Wintour said of the movie during a recent appearance on The Run-Through with Vogue Podcast.

“And I, in the end, thought it was a fair shot,” she added.

Wintour went on to praise Streep and Emily Blunt’s performances (tragically, there was no mention of Anne Hathaway), before describing Priestly as a “caricature”.

“But first of all, it was Meryl Streep which [is] fantastic … and then I went to see the film, and I found it highly enjoyable and very funny,” she said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Wintour said the fashion industry was “very sweetly concerned” that the movie “was gonna paint me in some kind of difficult light”, even though Priestly’s villainy has maintained a rightful place on this writer’s vision board.

Well, her and the blue — sorry, cerulean — sweater Hathaway wears in act one. And the singular cube of cheese that constitutes Blunt’s entire diet. And, well, Stanely Tucci.

Wintour’s interview comes amid multiple developments both at Vogue and Runway, following her decision to step back as the former mag’s editor after a whopping 37 years at its helm.

Chloe Malle was tipped as Wintour’s successor earlier this month, but the keys to Wintour’s sunglasses cabinet will never (and should never) be handed on.

Meanwhile, we’re all gearing up for the release of The Devil Wears Prada sequel, which has already spawned enough set photo leaks to warrant a plumber.

The sequel is expected to hit cinemas next year which, at Wintour’s rate, will mean we’ll hear thoughts circa 2044. At which point Runway will be run by clankers, probably.
